A three vehicle crash Sunday afternoon that closed Highway 6 between Bryan and Hearne for three hours took the life of one person and sent nine others to the hospital.
DPS Sgt. Jimmy Morgan says a northbound car slowing down to make a u-turn to assist a family member who had broken down was rear ended.
That pushed the car into oncoming traffic, and the car was struck head on by a pickup truck.
The driver in the car that was rear-ended was killed. She was identified as 32 year old Maria Roque-Manueles of Bryan. Her passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Eight others were treated and released.
The location of Highway 6 where the crash took place, near the weigh station, does not have a center turning lane or crossover.
