Officials Deny ID Compromise at College

PALESTINE, Texas (AP) _ Trinity Valley Community College officials are denying that student information security was breached in the theft of a computer.

Wires were cut as thieves stole the computer from the college’s Palestine campus. Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor had told the Palestine Herald-Press that student information was on the computer taken in the weekend break-in discovered Monday.

School spokeswoman Jennifer Hannigan says the computer was used only to store and manage surveillance video. She says no student information was on the computer.

Taylor told The Associated Press on Tuesday that that’s not what school representatives told his deputies doing the on-scene investigation on Monday.
