Less than a week since the United Kingdom left the European Union, Rt. Hon. Conor Burns MP, U.K. Minister of State for International Trade visited College Station.
Part of a week-long Texas tour, Minister Burns stopped in Aggieland to discuss U.K. and U.S. trade post-Brexit. Burns says trade with the United States is one of their top priorities.
“I want to be taken as a declaration of intent, on the part of Her Majesty’s government, that the United States is right up there in our top priorities to negotiate a comprehensive free trade agreement,” said Burns.
Burns says Brexit should not be looked at as the United Kingdom retreating into itself.
“Quiet the reverse. It is the United Kingdom rejoining the rest of the world. Our great international trading destiny, the history on which we have built the greatness of our country,” said Burns.
Burns also discussed several potential trading opportunities with Texas, including NASA working with U.K. companies on space development.
