This morning’s commute was slowed at the intersection of University and Texas in front of Northpoint Crossing after a city water main line broke releasing water into the roadway.
Jennifer Nations, College Station’s Water Resource Coordinator, says the initial call came in around 8 a.m.
“By about 9:30 a.m. we determined that it was a leak on a 12-inch line right in front of the complex,” said Nations.
Nations says crews were brought in to excavate through the pavement and make the repair.
“The biggest impact was the traffic because early this morning before they had traffic control in place, there was water all over the road and that can make for some hazardous driving conditions,” said Nations.
Nations said a piece called the “bell”, which goes around and connects two pipes, cracked and caused the water leak.
There were no reports of residents or businesses in the area without water.
Nations expects the repairs to be completed by Wednesday evening.
