Acadiana, Louisiana– July 18, 2019 – The Bombers drop a heart breaker to the Cane Cutters Thursday night as they came back to tie it at the top of the eighth at four before succumbing to the Cane Cutters in the bottom half of the inning to fall 5-4.
The scoring started early for both squads as each plated a run in the first frame. The Bombers got things going in the top half after three singles and a sac fly from Chase Kemp to score Cole Coker to take a 1-0 lead. The Cane Cutters returned fire after a leadoff walk came around on a Champ Artiguesground out to tie things up.
The Cane Cutters would then take control of the game blanking the Bombers hitters for the next six innings as they were able to knock in three more runs in the same time.
The Bombers mounted a comeback in the eighth inning behind three hits, two walks, and a homer to tie things up at four runs apiece. Tyler Smith started things off with a solo shot to deep left center. Bryant Shellenbarger would hit a sacrifice fly to score Hunter Dobbins who reached on a walk. A wild pitch would bring in Kemp as the tying run.
The Bombers would then give up a line run in the bottom half of the eighth on an error at second. The Bombers defense committed six errors on the night counting for three of the Cane Cutters runs.
It was a bullpen day for the pitching staff as five pitchers were used over the course of the game. As a staff they surrendered two earned runs on four hits, and striking out eight.
The Bombers return home for a four game series starting Friday night against the Baton Rouge Rougarou for two games and two more against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
