Doxakis Tabbed a Preseason All-American

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior left-hander John Doxakis was tabbed a D1Baseball.com Preseason All-America Second Team starting pitcher on Monday.

Doxakis posted an 8-5 record with a 2.70 ERA, .212 opponent batting average while striking out 92 in his 93.1 innings of work.

The Houston native shined in the postseason, notching a 2-0 record, 0.68 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 13.1 innings in his two starts. At the SEC Tournament, Doxakis outpitched Auburn’s Casey Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, by yielding just one run on two hits while striking out 10 in 7.1 innings. In regional play, he worked 6.0 innings against Indiana, allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out 12.

As a freshman, the southpaw pitched in 25 games, including seven starts, registering a 4-3 mark with a 5.44 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 49.2 innings.

Doxakis is the second Aggie to earn Preseason All-America distinction, joining Braden Shewmake who was named to the Rawlings/Perfect Game Third Team.

Texas A&M concluded the 2018 campaign with a 40-22 record, extending their school-record string of consecutive NCAA Championship appearances to 12 seasons.

The Maroon and White commence the 2019 season on February 15-17 when they host the Fordham Rams in a three-game series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
