A Bryan woman was arrested after crashing into a utility pole, then walking away from the scene with her 6-month-old daughter. Bryan Police responded to the 700 block of East 23rd Street around 9:30pm Sunday after receiving a report that a vehicle had crashed into a telephone pole. The caller told dispatch that the driver appeared intoxicated and walked away holding a baby. Officers found a Toyota Corolla against the pole with front-end damage. He found 34-year-old Maria Casas, of Brenham, hiding under a tree in a nearby field, holding her daughter. Reports say Casas had difficulty standing on her own and smelled of alcohol. EMS was called to the scene to evaluate mother and daughter and both were cleared. Casas was given a field sobriety test which she failed. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Under 15 and Endangering a Child. She is being held on $22,000 bond.
