A week ago Friday, December 14th, WTAW News visited with College Station firefighter Carter Hall about cooking fires during the holiday season.
The College Station fire department reports this is the time of year for the most home fires, and the number one cause is cooking. That’s was the cause of the last two CSFD residential calls.
According to the department’s social media, the first run was in response to what turned out to be food burning in the microwave inside a home on Mullins Loop East…north of Barron Road between Longmire and Alexandria.. There was enough smoke to trigger the smoke alarms. There was no report of any fire damage.
On Christmas Eve, a family was displaced after fire was found in the attic of a home on Detroit Street…located off Southwest Parkway near the Lincoln Recreation Center. The resident was cooking at the time.
