College Station Police Response To Stuck Railroad Traffic Crossing Arm Along Wellborn Road

A major traffic snarl on Wellborn Road began around 8 a.m. Monday morning due to malfunctioning railroad crossing arms at Rock Prairie Road.

College Station police report all eastbound Cain Road traffic was routed southbound onto Wellborn Road and officers were sent out to direct traffic and relieve congestion.

The outside lane of southbound Wellborn was closed at Cain Road to create a dedicated lane for traffic coming from Cain.

Lieutenant Craig Anderson says once traffic was alleviated, which took about an hour, the railroad crossing arms were “jumpered up” until they can be repaired, which means they will not go down when a train comes.

Lt. Anderson did not know the caused of the malfunction or how long it would take to repair the crossing arms.

According to a Union Pacific tweet, “each train will deploy a flagger for Rock Prairie Road until the gate arm malfunction is repaired”.

Update: College Station police tweeted shortly after 1 p.m. that repairs were completed to the railroad crossing arm.
