The official population counting day for the next U.S. census isn’t until April 1, 2020.
But the “gospel of the census” is being spread by the Brazos Valley Council of Governments.
BVCOG assistant executive director Michael Parks recently told the Bryan city council one of the challenges is getting Texas A&M and Blinn students to declare their residency here as required by federal law. Where ever you live April 1 of 2020, that’s what you tell the census.
Off campus, the big question for others to answer is “Are you a citizen?” That question was omitted for the first time in 2010, but has returned for 2020.
Parks says the census wants the most current list of addresses by the end of September.
And the census is identifying neighborhoods of students and low income families where they expect workers to go door to door to count people who don’t respond to requests by mail.
