Amarillo Economist Updates B/CS Chamber Audience On The Local Economy

The Bryan/College Station economy is in its eighth year of record economic growth.

That’s according to an Amarillo economist who has been keeping track for almost 20 years.

Karr Ingham told those attending the Bryan/College Station chamber of commerce economic outlook briefing that says B/CS currently has its lowest unemployment rate in history, and we’re second in the state in job growth, following the Midland/Odessa area.

Ingham says conditions on the national and state levels will determine when the next recession starts.

Ingham says other economists say the U.S. is due for another recession. He says he’s not sure because the U.S. had what he called “recession hangover” through last year from the recession that ran from late 2007 through mid 2009.

Ingham also spoke about President Trump’s economic policies, describing them as “schizophrenic”. Ingham supports the president’s tax reform and reduction of federal regulations. But he is opposed to the president’s trade restrictions and tariffs.
