Starting Thursday, August 9, there is a new street closure in the Northgate district during peak weekend hours. College Station Assistant Director of Community Services, Gus Roman, says they are closing the intersection at Boyett and University Drive to vehicular traffic.

“Students tend to not pay attention to the crosswalks and to the lights, so in an effort to make that a safer intersection, we are closing it off,” said Roman.

Boyett from University Drive to Patricia Street will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. to vehicular traffic.

“Thousands of students that are crossing back and forth through there, so to keep anyone from getting injured, we are hoping this will mitigate some of the interaction between pedestrians and the vehicles,” said Roman.

The intersection will also be closed on Wednesday, August 29th, the night before the Aggie football opener against Northwestern State.
