From the Texas A&M Association of Former Students:
Due to predictions of severe weather for Friday, April 13, The Association of Former Students is implementing a weather contingency plan and will relocate the Aggie Ring delivery FOR FRIDAY ONLY from the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center to inside the Hall of Champions at Kyle Field. The forecast for Saturday is clear, so all Saturday deliveries will proceed as scheduled at the Williams Alumni Center.
Other than the location, all other logistics for Friday’s Aggie Ring Day are unchanged:
• There is no change to Friday’s delivery times; only the location has changed.
• Last names starting with A to K will enter through the Southwest Tower (the corner of the stadium closest to Blue Bell Park).
• Last names starting with L to Z will enter through the Northwest Tower (the corner of the stadium closest to the West Campus Garage).
Detailed information about Ring Day, including a map showing the Hall of Champions, is available at tx.ag/AggieRingDay. Ring recipients and Ring Day volunteers will receive email communication with additional information. Information regarding this change will also be shared on all Aggie Network social media channels.
On many occasions through the years, we have continued with Aggie Ring Day activities at the Williams Alumni Center despite heavy rains or other inclement weather. However, predictions for this Friday include the probability of thunderstorms and lightning, and the possibility of high winds, hail and other severe conditions.
“After consultations with the Texas A&M Emergency Management Team and based on the best available information from the National Weather Service and the chief meteorologist at KBTX,” Association Vice President Kathryn Greenwade said, “it became clear the responsible course of action was to move Aggie Ring Day to a larger indoor location that offers more shelter and greater safety and comfort for Aggie Ring recipients, their families and friends, and the hundreds of staff and volunteers who make Ring Day possible.”
Predicting the weather always includes a large element of uncertainty, and Friday could end up being a beautiful day. But moving Ring Day is an enormously complex logistical operation and that plan is already fully in motion, so this decision will not be reversed even if the forecast changes.
Ring Day planning involves many teams from The Association of Former Students, as well as many Texas A&M University entities. The Association of Former Students is appreciative of our university partners who have helped us implement this contingency plan, and we are especially appreciative of Texas A&M Athletics for making the Hall of Champions available to us during a very busy weekend in Aggieland. We look forward to a great weekend in Aggieland and congratulate the 6,600 Aggies who will receive their Aggies Rings Friday and Saturday.
