How TxDOT Prepares For Winter Road Conditions

Additional white lines on state and federal highways was the sign of the first step to prepare for icy road conditions that could have happened during the New Year’s holiday weekend and into the first week of 2018.

Bob Colwell at the Texas Department of Transportation district office in Bryan said the white lines were brine water that was sprayed on the pavement. That’s something that was started in 2016.

If road conditions got worse, TxDOT crews would have applied magnesium chloride spray and light rock.

Colwell reminds drivers who get stranded to call 9-1-1 and not leave their vehicle.
