Normangee Police Chief Arrested

The Normangee Police Chief was arrested Wednesday morning following a stand-off lasting 4 1/2 hours.

According to DPS, just before 2 a.m., the family at the Normangee home of Charles Herford called 911 concerned about their safety.

Responding officers located Herford in his vehicle and attempted to pull him over, but he refused and eventually evaded them.

Herford returned to his residence and refused to come out. Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Texas Rangers negotiated with him for several hours before he left his residence peacefully and turned himself in around 7 a.m.

Herford was charged with deadly conduct and evading arrest.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., Normangee I-S-D posted on Facebook that all classes and extra-curricular activities were cancelled today due to a reason beyond their control.
