Crash Victim Pulled Out Of Fiery Car By Citizens & Bryan Officer Injured In Separate Collision

From Bryan police:

On October 31, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. officers responded to a major collision in the 1900 block of N. Earl Rudder Freeway at Tabor Road.

A silver Dodge car was travelling north on the freeway when exiting at Tabor Road the driver lost control and hit a tree.

The vehicle caught fire and the driver, a 21 year old male from Bryan/College Station, was trapped inside.

A dozen or more citizens used approximately 20 fire extinguishers to keep the flames at bay as they attempted to free the driver.

A Bryan police officer arrived on scene and assisted as well.

Thanks to the quick thinking of citizens, employees at WC Tractor, and the officer on scene the driver was extricated before the fire department arrived.

It is believed that their actions may have saved this young man’s life.

The driver was transported to CHI St. Joseph Hospital.

Originally it was thought that he would be flown to Houston but instead he was admitted to St. Joseph and is currently in critical condition.

The Tabor Road exit and Tabor Road were closed for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

From Bryan police:

On October 31, 2016 at 4:45 p.m. a Bryan police officer in a marked unit was traveling Northbound in 300 block of S. Texas Ave.

A black suburban, driven by a 78 year old male from Bryan, was traveling eastbound in the 300 block of E. 28th St.

The suburban stopped at the stop sign and then failed to yield right of way crossing Texas Ave.

The police car struck the suburban which drove into a nearby mechanics parking lot striking four parked vehicles.

The driver of the suburban was not injured and the officer was taken to CHI St. Joseph Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
