There were not enough members of the Bryan city council at the end of Tuesday night’s meeting to vote on next year’s budget.
The special meeting began shorthanded with the absences of Greg Owens and Buppy Simank.
Then Jason Bienski and Ben Hardeman left council chambers after a motion was made to move $50,000 dollars to help an expansion of BRAC…the Bryan regional athletic complex…by reducing an equal amount from the Research Valley Partnership economic development agency.
At the meeting, Rafael Pena told Bienski, “It’s a lot of class, Mayor.”
The following morning on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs, Bienski pointed out Tuesday night was supposed to be the second and final reading on the budget.
Bienski also said Pena approved the first reading of the budget at the last council meeting and Pena missed six budget discussions.
Mike Southerland attempted to continue with only three of seven members remaining.
The mayor, on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs, took issue with Southerland asking more questions on the final reading of the budget…following six prior discussions.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting…to try a second time for final budget approval…is next Tuesday.
