State Senate Approves Texas Budget

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The Texas Senate has approved the $182 billion state budget.

The 2010-2011 spending plan was unanimously approved without debate Thursday. The legislation is next up in the House, before it can be sent to the governor’s desk.

The budget, which depends on $12.1 billion from the federal economic stimulus money, pays for state agencies and programs over the next two years. Most of the money is dedicated to education and health care.

About $80 billion of the budget is state money, mostly revenue from various taxes and fees.
