LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ A Texas Tech University task force has recommended a policy to govern the carrying of handguns on the Lubbock campus.
In a statement Tuesday, Tech officials say the policy, which is required by a recent state law, will be reviewed by the Texas Tech University System regents.
The policy would ban firearms from the student recreation center, campus chapel, any location where professional counseling services are provided, spaces used for activities or camps attended by minors, designated research laboratories, any university event whether alcohol is being served legally and approved performance venues.
The university also would require students with concealed handgun licenses and living in designated campus residences to secure and store the weapon so it is not accessible by anyone but the permit holder.
