Construction at the Brazos County courthouse is throwing in kink in how one court will have jurors report.
Residents summoned for jury duty Monday morning, September 27, in Judge Steve Smith’s 361st District Court need to report to the Brazos County Expo, not the courthouse.
The reporting time has not changed, and the order is only for the 361st District Court.
The Brazos County Expo is on Leonard Road in west Bryan.
For the third time in less than two months, College Station police take a 19 year old from Franklin to jail on an alcohol related offense. The CSPD arrest report says the driver, who was the designated driver, had seven beers and three shots in a three hour period before losing control of his car on Greens Prairie Road near Fitch. The car struck the Shipley’s Donut building and nearly hit a gas pump at the 7-11. That resulted in four tires being ripped from the rims. Online records show the driver, Trenton Hurst, went to jail in October for public intoxication and in September for minor in possession. Hurst remains in jail as of November 4th on the DWI charge in lieu of a $3,000 dollar bond. A College Station police officer catches a motorcyclist who the officer saw drove through the Northgate district four times before and after the bars closed Saturday morning (November 2) at an estimated one hundred miles per hour. The CSPD arrest report says the officer believes the motorcyclist intentionally stalled the engine with the idea to drive away at the last moment. Instead, the officer grabbed the handlebars and wrestled the driver to the ground. 19 year old Mercer Kerlin of College Station was taken to jail on three counts of reckless driving and evading arrest in a motorcycle with no license plates. Kerlin was released from jail after posting cash bonds totaling $11,000 dollars.
Those interested in the future highway looping around the east side of Bryan and College Station are invited to a public meeting. The Texas department of transportation (TxDOT) Bryan district office and Brazos County are promoting Thursday’s meeting (November 7) from five until seven p.m. at the Brazos Center. The specific alignment of the highway will not be determined until mid to late 2026. TxDOT’s website shows it will start from north Bryan at FM 2828, go to the east of the Steep Hollow area, and end at William D. Fitch in College Station. The TxDOT Bryan district office says the first phase of adding bike lanes on George Bush affects the intersection with Texas. The first phase is scheduled to be completed November 14. The entire project, adding separated bike lanes on George Bush between Texas and Wellborn, is supposed to be completed by February 2025.
College Station police break up a party on Halloween night in the Southside neighborhood south of the Texas A&M campus that was attended by an estimated 400 to 500 people. The party is also on the radar of Aggie Athletics. That’s because it was held at the home of baseball players Hayden Schott and Jace Laviolette. An athletics spokesman tells WTAW News that they are cooperating with CSPD’s investigation, and the baseball team was not a sponsor of any event that took place on Halloween. Police issued tickets to Schott and Laviolette for undisclosed offenses related to a loud party. A bartender went to jail on a misdemeanor charge of furnishing alcohol to minors. Around 2:30 Friday morning (November 1), a College Station police officer on patrol in the Barracks subdivision sees people still celebrating Halloween. During that time, the officer hears screeching tires coming from a vehicle with a diesel engine. The CSPD arrest report says the officer stops the truck which was doing a burnout, he asks the driver to get out, then the officer sees fire coming out of the engine bay. Three passengers then got out of the truck. The driver, a 21 year old from League City, went to jail on a charge of reckless driving. Bryan police make a drunk driving arrest Halloween night where the driver’s breath alcohol level was more than three and a half times the legal limit. The BPD arrest report says the breath tests were .295 and .296. 30 year old Latisha Narvell of Bryan was also driving with two children who were not in car seats. One of the children told an officer that they were almost involved in four crashes. Narvell was also charged with two counts of child endangerment. BPD provided car seats to the children’s grandparents, who took custody when Narvell went to jail. She remains held as of November 1 in lieu of bonds totaling $15,000 dollars.
