Five Aggies Pick up SEC Postseason Honors

Five Texas A&M women’s basketball players picked up SEC honors on Tuesday, highlighted by Courtney Walker‘s third consecutive First Team All-SEC selection. Jordan Jones and Courtney Williams were named Second Team All-SEC, Anriel Howard was named Freshman All-SEC and Chelsea Jennings was named 6th Woman of the Year. Jones was also named to the SEC All-Defense Team.

Walker is the third A&M player to be named to the conference first team in three consecutive years, joining Lisa Branch (1993-96, SWC) and Takia Starks (2006-09, Big 12), who happen to be the only players above Walker on A&M’s all-time scoring list. Walker led the SEC in scoring with 19.7 points per game in league play, and needs just 47 points to set the A&M career scoring record.

Jones was named to the All-SEC Second Team for the second straight year, and named to the SEC All-Defensive Team for the third straight year. She is the only player in SEC history to be named to three All-Defensive Teams, and the second A&M player to make three all-defensive teams, joining Danielle Gant (2006-09, Big 12). Jones led SEC play in assists per game for the third consecutive season with 6.5 this year.

Williams was named Second Team All-SEC for the third straight year, joining Walker as the first Aggies to have three all-conference selections in the SEC era. Williams ranks 17th in all games among SEC players in scoring with 12.2 points per game, and had four 20+ point games this season.

Howard was named to the SEC All-Freshman team, becoming the second Texas A&M player to receive that honor from the SEC. Howard was second among SEC Freshmen with 6.4 rebounds per game in SEC play, and is averaging the most rebounds of any A&M player since 2005-06.

Jennings was named SEC 6th Woman of the Year, after averaging 10.8 points per game in SEC games, which led all SEC reserves. Jennings had three games of 20+ points and 10 double-figure scoring games in the SEC season.

The Aggies return to action on Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., where the No. 2-seeded Aggies will take on either No. 7 seed Tennessee or No. 10 seed Arkansas.
