DALLAS (AP) _ Republican Gov. Rick Perry isn’t meeting with newspaper editorial boards as he campaigns for re-election, but he did speak at a meeting of editorial writers.
Perry on Thursday addressed the National Conference of Editorial Writers Convention. He touted Texas’ success in creating jobs and the state’s fight with the federal government over more than $830 million in education funding.
After the speech, Perry said time was better spent “out talking to the people” than visiting editorial boards. He also defended not debating Democrat Bill White, his November opponent. Perry said “pretty silly questions” are sometimes asked in debates.
White has met with editorial boards.
