College Station and Bryan school board members approved millions of dollars of construction contracts during their February monthly meetings.
CSISD facilities director Jon Hall says the project cost of the new third intermediate school passed by voters last November is $36 million dollars. That’s $2.2 million under the original estimate. The new intermediate school will be located next door to Greens Prairie elementary. It is supposed to be completed in time for the start of the 2017 school year.

There’s enough savings from construction contracts awarded by the Bryan school district as part of its November 2014 bond issue to pay for additional projects. Facilities director Jeff Windsor says that includes additions at the transportation center, which will move bus drivers out of a portable building. The $1.5 million dollar project also includes a lift for bus maintenance, and remodeling another building to move the grounds department from its current location off Highway 21.
Another $2.4 million in savings from Bryan ISD bond contracts is going into new roofs at four buildings. Windsor says the package for new roofs at Bryan High, the building that includes Bryan Collegiate, and Bowen and Henderson elementaries was more than $500,000 dollars less than the original estimate.
During the February Bryan ISD school board meeting, Windsor reported on the progress of bond related construction at Stephen F. Austin, the former Bryan Civic Auditorium that is becoming the BISD performing arts center, the new Sul Ross elementary, Davila Middle School, and the new press box at Merrill Green Stadium.
