SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Texas supermarket chain H-E-B will not allow customers to openly carry guns in its stores even when the new state law legalizing open carry goes into effect in January.
H-E-B has started to post signs at its entrances prohibiting open carry. A company spokeswoman says H-E-B is maintaining a long-held policy to only permit concealed carry in its stores.
Texas will become the 45th state to legalize wearing handguns openly, though Texans could already carry rifles and long guns.
Openly carrying a gun will require obtaining the same license as concealed weapons holders.
