Aggies Top Leaderboard after Final day of Art Adamson Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The No. 5 Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team finished in first place with a total score of 1,166 points on the third day the Art Adamson Invitational.

Texas A&M was the only team on both the men’s and women’s side to eclipse 1,000 total points.

The Aggies opened up night three with three NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 200 back. Sophomore Lisa Bratton finished in third place with a 1:54.27 followed by senior Claire Brandt (1:54.87) in fourth place. Freshman Sydney Pickremfinished in seventh place with a time of 1:57.88.

The 100 free featured five Aggies with NCAA ‘B’ cuts. Finishing in second, fourth and sixth were sophomore Béryl Gastaldello (48.35), sophomore Kristin Malone(48.99), and freshman Claire Rasmus (49.59), respectively. In the consolation final, senior Meredith Oliver (48.89) and freshman Lexie Lupton (49.55) swam ‘B’ cuts of their own.

Texas A&M put four swimmers into the championship final 200 breast and came away with four ‘B’ cuts. Sophomore Esther Gonzalez finished in second with a time of 2:08.30 with sophomore Bethany Galat (2:09.10) right behind her in third. Sophomore transfer Jorie Caneta swam the event in 2:10.97 for fifth place while Pickrem swam into seventh place with a time of 2:12.94.

Junior Sarah Gibson finished the 200 fly in 1:57.50 for fourth place while juniorSycerika McMahon finished in sixth with a 1:59.11, both good for NCAA ‘B’ cuts. Sophomore Caitlyn Moon finished the race in 2:03.68 for eighth place. In the consolation final, freshman Tiffany Futscher swam an NCAA ‘B’ 1:59.05.

The Aggies wrapped up the invitational with a great showing in the 400 free relay. The team consisting of Oliver, Malone, Gastaldello, and Lupton finished in second place with a ‘B’ cut 3:16.60. Brandt, Rasmus, Gibson, and senior Katherine Huff finished in eighth place with a 3:21.71.

The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team will resume action on Saturday, Dec. 5 with a meet in Houston, Texas against in-state foe Rice.
