A second man has been convicted of the July 2013 armed robbery of the Commerce National Bank branch on East 29th in Bryan and the highjacking of the getaway car.

The Brazos County district court jury that convicted 28 year old Erric Portis Junior of Calvert heard before sentencing that he told a jailer he would have to be tased in order to get control of him.

The jury also heard about Portis’s gang activity, the holdup of The Bank and Trust on Highway 21 that took place two weeks after the CNB robbery, testimony from ten jail employees about fights and other incidents, and his criminal history.

The jury, which had the sentencing option of 25 years to life, came back with 90 years in prison.

A co-defendant in the CNB robbery, Bryan Champion of Houston, is serving 60 years after his jury trial last year.
