7-on-7 Tourney starts today at A&M

We told you earlier this week about the 7-on-7 State Flag Football Tournament starting today at the Penberthy Complex on East Campus at A&M. Two 64-team brackets will compete over three days for the title, won last year by Brownwood in Division II and by Lake Travis in Division I

Division II, which is 3A, 2A and 1A schools will start pool play today and finish up tomorrow. Division I, which is 5A and 4A, start tomorrow and finish Saturday. All four Consolation and Championship games will be played at Kyle Field.

Play starts today at Noon and four area school qualified for the state tournament in Division II. Navasota opens with Princeton in a pool that includes Ballinger and Industrial. Lexington opens with Pettus in a pool with Celina and Iraan. Rockdale opens with Sanger in a pool with Abilene Wylie and Somerset. And last year’s runner-up Cameron opens with Bandera in a pool with Seminole and Gilmer. Each team will play three games today

Tomorrow, Division I starts and A&M Consolidated is the only area school that qualified. Consol will open tomorrow at Noon against Houston Chavez in a pool that includes Cy-Fair and Dallas Jesuit.
