No. 23 Aggies Dominate San Diego State 72-35

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- No. 23 Texas A&M led wire-to-wire to win in convincing fashion, 72-35, over San Diego State. Karla Gilbert and Courtney Williams each had double doubles for the Aggies, and were two of four Aggies in double figures.

Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair earned his 650th career win, becoming the 19th women’s basketball coach, and the fifth coach who coached in the SEC, to reach that milestone.

“Our team was ready to play tonight,” said Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair. “Tonight we had some good moments and we had some bad moments. Jordan Jones did an excellent job of dissecting the zone and getting some easy layups.”

This was the 62nd consecutive non-conference home win over an unranked opponent for the Aggies, and pushed their record to 22-1 against unranked opponents at home since 2011-12

The Aggies (5-2) jumped out on an 11-0 run to start the game, led by four points from Courtney Walker. A&M held San Diego State (1-5) to 21% shooting in the first half, to take a 31-14 lead at the break. This was the 10th time since the start of 2012-13, and second time this season, that the Aggies held an opponent to 20-or-fewer first half points.

The Aggies shot 44.4% from the field and was 2-of-2 from beyond the arc in the second half, outscoring the Aztecs 41-21 in the second half en route to victory. Blair used that as an opportunity to empty the bench, as Allison Chu picked up her first career rebound and Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar made her first appearance on the basketball floor, fresh off of soccer season.

Karla Gilbert led the Aggies with 16 points and 11 rebounds, including a career-high eight offensive boards. Gilbert earned her second career double double, both of which have come in a span of a week after earning a double double against Memphis on Nov. 28.

Courtney Williams had her first career double double, including a career-high 12 rebounds. Williams reached double figures in points for the second time in three games.

Chelsea Jennings had her first career double-digit scoring game, posting a career-high 10 points, and matching a season-high with five rebounds. Courtney Walker joined the others in double figures, scoring 10+ points for the sixth straight game.

Jordan Jones matched her career-high with her second career 10-assist performance.

The Aggies return to action on Saturday, December 7 at 7 p.m. as Pac-12 foe Washington visits Reed Arena.
