College Station City Council Approves Conditional Use Permit For A Bar’s Large Expansion

The College Station city council at its last meeting approved a request to allow a bar and restaurant to expand its business space by 65 percent.

The Angry Elephant, off of Fitch and west of Arrington, will occupy about one-third of a 9,000 square foot shopping center after it’s footprint goes from 1,980 to 3,270 square feet.

The original permit application called for the business to restrict access to 21 and over at 9 p.m. Owner Aaron Cohen said access will be restricted at 3 p.m.

Cohen said the time change was made because it is a bar that is licensed to get at least 51 percent of its revenue from alcohol sales.

Those under 21 still inside the business at 3 p.m., Cohen told the council no one gets forcibly removed. Instead, Cohen says “they do it as gently and as diplomatically as possible.”

Cohen also said “If somebody is in that space in-between that gray area, we’ll let them finish their visit and then kindly ask them when they’re finished to have anyone who is under the age of 21 to leave”.
