Bryan School Board Updated On 2014 And 2019 Bond Projects

While the Bryan school board prepares ask voters to approve a bond issue next year of more than $100 million dollars, work is wrapping up on projects approved by voters in 2014.

During the board’s October 21st meeting, construction manager Paul Buckner reported repairs were completed at two new Rudder high school new career and technology buildings. Buckner says the main repairs involved removing brick, adding waterproofing, and replacing the brick. The contractor also had to redirect water coming the roofs of the buildings.

Buckner says the district was given an extended warranty on the repairs that were completed last summer, which goes through September first of next year.

During the board’s meeting on November 4, there was an update on projects funded by the $12 million dollar bond issue approved by voters last May.

Buckner says replacement of the roof at Bryan high school has been delayed by 42 rain days as of their September meeting with the contractor.

The price of the roof was $200,000 dollars under the district’s estimate. Superintendent Christie Whitbeck says the bond oversight committee will consider more projects with any savings when all the work is completed.

So far, projects funded by this year’s BISD bond issue have been a combined $744,000 dollars under district estimates.
