The Brenham fire department announces a 10 year old girl who was swept away by floodwaters Monday afternoon was found deceased Tuesday morning.
The body of Devah Woods, a third grade student at Brenham elementary, was found in Higgins Branch creek between FM 2935 and Old Independence Road. That is near the Washington County fairgrounds in northeast Brenham.
The child went in the water near Brenham’s Fireman’s Park. During initial rescue attempts, a Brenham police officer had to be rescued and treated by paramedics.
24 agencies were listed in the rescue attempt, including Brenham, Washington County, Brazos County, Bryan, and several state agencies.

The Brenham fire department has been joined by other agencies in the search for a 10 year old girl who was swept away by floodwaters Monday afternoon (May 5).
The Brenham fire department’s Facebook page said as of Tuesday morning, the search involved swift water rescue teams from Washington County Search and Rescue and Texas Task Force 1 divisions in Conroe and San Antonio, canine units, drones, and aircraft and drones from Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
As many as 14 agencies have been involved since the search began in a concrete drainage ditch near Brenham’s Fireman’s Park.
