UNDATED (AP) _ The Tour de France won’t begin as originally planned because French President Emmanuel Macron has canceled all public events with large crowds through mid-July in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Tour organizers say it is now impossible for the three-week race to start on June 27 in the Riviera city of Nice as scheduled. It is unclear if cycling’s biggest event will be scrapped from the race calendar. New plans are likely to be announced before the end of the month following consultations with the governing body of cycling.

Bryan and College Station Ask Residents to Adopt Voluntary Water Restrictions
Joint Press Release from the Cities of Bryan and College Station (08/26/2026): After a relatively mild start to the summer, water use across the Bryan and College Station water systems has increased rapidly due to recent triple-digit temperatures. When water demand approaches a system’s production capacity, it becomes difficult for water towers to maintain adequate levels. At a high level of demand, little room for error exists in the event of a water line break, large fire, equipment malfunction or other unexpected event. While water-use restrictions are not currently in place in Bryan or College Station, residents are encouraged to take the following steps now to reduce water use and help ensure that an adequate supply remains available for essential needs: Limit outdoor watering to twice per week. Avoid watering during the daytime. Water lost to evaporation is significantly higher during the hottest part of the day. Check sprinkler systems for leaks and make sure sprinklers are watering vegetation rather than sidewalks, driveways, or streets. Report suspected water leaks: Bryan: Contact the Public Works Call Center at 979-209-5900, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. For after-hours emergencies, call 979-822-3777. College Station: Contact Utility Dispatch at 855-528-4278 or use the convenient SeeClickFix app. Follow weekly irrigation recommendations from BVWaterSmart.org. BVWaterSmart recommends irrigating two days per week when rainfall has not occurred. Turn off your sprinklers when rain occurs. Even a small amount of rainfall may provide enough moisture to delay your next irrigation cycle. Drought contingency plans and defined irrigation schedules are important tools water utilities use to protect essential water supplies for fire protection and public health. By conserving water now and following recommended irrigation practices, our community can help maintain adequate water supplies and potentially avoid the need for mandatory water-use restrictions. A&M Consolidated Student Busted For Having THC Vape on Campus
Less than a week into the College Station ISD school year and a student has been arrested for having a THC vape at school. Arrest records say the 17-year-old student from A&M Consolidated High School was arrested on Tuesday after the device fell out of his pocket. We are withholding his name due to his age. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2 (under one gram) in a Drug-Free Zone. He remains jailed on $15,000 bond. Man Busted for Public Intoxication Twice In One Week
A man who was arrested last week for Public Intoxication after harassing two female students outside A&M Consolidated High School on August 18th, was arrested again. 36-year-old Bob Esquivel was picked up again by College Station Police on Tuesday. Reports say Esquivel approached a home in the 1200 block of Carolina Street around 10:30pm and tried to talk his way into the residence. He reportedly asked the residents if they liked cookies and offered to conduct bible study with them. He smelled of alcohol and had trouble walking. He was booked into the Brazos County Jail for Public Intoxication and was again released on a Personal Recognizance Bond of $300, the same as last week. This was Esquivel’s 27th booking into the jail and his 10th arrest for Public Intoxication. He also has numerous arrests for criminal trespass, as well as assault of EMS personnel and possession of a controlled substance. *This is his booking photo from last week.
