Authorities continue to collect information from storms that hit the Brazos Valley Friday night.

Brazos County Emergency Management Coordinator Chuck Frazier tells victims who have not filed a damage report to call 979-361-3888.

Frazier says in Brazos County they received no damage reports from possible tornadoes. Over six inches of rain Friday night and Saturday morning resulted in flooding due to the water not draining off quickly enough.

At Texas A&M University, the basement of the commons dormitory was flooded along with some homes. And there were a few motorist rescues after their vehicles stalled in high water. The weather service reported downed power poles at Finfeather and Ashford and hail breaking windows at George Bush and Marion Pugh.

Bryan Fire investigators are checking into the weather causing a fire that destroyed a vacant Mexican restaurant that used to be Los Lomas and before that Fajitas Ritas.

And a possible tornado touched down near Snook, damaging the Federal Express center and trucks and trailers among other structures. No injuries were reported.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — With eight Big 12 games remaining, the defending national champion Texas A&M Aggies finally feel as if they’re becoming the team they want to be.

“It’s nice to finally get chemistry with this team,” senior Sydney Carter said. “We’ve been waiting so long to say we’re clicking and we’re gelling. It’s a transition from last year where we knew each other like the back of our hands. We carried that so long, it was a key reason why we won last year.”

Kelsey Bone had a season-high 26 points and eight rebounds and No. 18 Texas A&M won its third straight, 62-51, over Kansas on Saturday night.

The Aggies never trailed, but saw a big second half lead dwindle to four points with less than two minutes remaining. A three-point play by Bone extended the lead to 58-51.

A steal by Tyra White gave the Aggies the ball back after that and Carter added a pair of free throws. A layup by Bone after another turnover by Kansas made it 62-51 with 42 seconds left.

Bone, who is in her first season with the Aggies after transferring from South Carolina and sitting out a year, outdid her previous season-best of 20 points, which came against Mississippi State.

“I wish we had a few more games against Kansas, because her two games against Kansas were her best,” Texas A&M coach Gary Blair said. “She’s starting to know when to pull it out or make that pass in there. It’s taken her a while to realize what a shot is, what a good shot is and what a great shot is.”

Bone’s performance was a key to Texas A&M outscoring Kansas 34 to 22 inside on Saturday.

Carter added 15 points for Texas A&M (16-5, 7-3).

The Jayhawks (16-6, 5-5), who have lost three straight, got 11 points each from Angel Goodrich and Aishah Sutherland.

Carolyn Davis, who entered the game averaging a team-leading 18.1 points a game, was limited to six points after getting into early foul trouble dealing with Bone.

“She was getting deep catches and at that point any great post player can score,” Davis, who had 10 rebounds, said of Bone. “With my defensive pressure, I should have been able to get in front to of her.”

Kansas coach Bonnie Henrickson was disappointed that Davis picked up her third foul less than one minute into the second half, which changed the way she could handle Bone.

“She got deep, and Carolyn got in foul trouble and then she’s hesitant,” Henrickson said. “We’ve got to get into somebody a little bit harder and make them put the ball on the floor. Bone got right in front of the rim and got high percentage shots.”

Texas A&M was up by 17 points early in the second half before Kansas used a 22-10 run to get to 50-45 with about seven minutes remaining. Davis got the run going with two buckets and CeCe Harper capped it with a 3-pointer.

Carter got A&M back on track with a 3-pointer after Kansas cut the lead to five. The Jayhawks responded with a 6-2 run to get to 55-51 before Bone’s key 3-point play.

The Aggies used an 8-0 run to open the second half and extend their lead to 40-23 with just under 18 minutes remaining. Bone scored six of the points in that span.

Texas A&M jumped out to an 8-0 lead powered by four points from Bone and was ahead 32-23 at halftime.

POSTGAME NOTES

TEAM NOTES

• For the ninth time this season, Texas A&M used the starting lineup of Alexia Standish, Sydney Carter, Tyra White, Adaora Elonu and Kelsey Bone…The Aggies are 7-2 with this starting lineup.

• Texas A&M improved to 11-7 in the all-time series with Kansas. The Aggies have won the last 10 straight meetings between the two schools.

• The Aggies are also winners in 11 of the last 12 matchups with Kansas.

• For the first time this season, four Aggie post players (Assarian, Bellock, Bone and Elonu) took charges in the game.

• The Aggies led by as many as 17 points early in the second half.

• Texas A&M women’s basketball Reunion Weekend was held with more than 50 former players and coaches in attendance.

INDIANAPOLIS — With this rookie award by Von Miller, the Broncos have final confirmation.

They did not blow their No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Miller was named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year here Saturday, an award he received during the league’s award ceremony at Murat Theatre.

“First of all, the award is all for him,” said Broncos’ football operations boss John Elway. “He’s the guy who went out and did it. Considering he didn’t have an offseason for us, learning the defense — with the year he had there’s just so much more upside for him that he’s just going to get better and better.”

Still, for all the guff the Broncos have received for using first-round selections on such disappointments as Knowshon Moreno, Jarvis Moss, George Foster, Willie Middlebrooks and Marcus Nash, the new administration of Elway, John Fox and Brian Xanders can feel comfort that they got the first one right.

Miller gave considerable credit to his linebacker coach Richard Smith for pushing him so hard, “my best wasn’t good enough,” and fellow pass rush mate Elvis Dumervil for taking the time to teach him the intricacies of NFL play.

“I want all the awards but this one was really up there because you only get one chance to get it,” Miller said after his press conference. “I really wanted this one.”

With the Carolina Panthers taking quarterback Cam Newton with the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft, the Broncos had their pick of defensive players.

Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus would have answered a need. If only cornerback Patrick Peterson was available to the Broncos in this year’s draft.

Dareus, who was drafted No. 3, had a superb rookie year for the Buffalo Bills, getting 5 ½ sacks from the inside. Peterson, the No. 5 pick, was a playmaking machine. Aldon Smith, the No. 7 pick by San Francisco, had 14 sacks, or 2 ½ more than Miller, but the Broncos were better than most at defensive end with Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers.

“We just thought that the pass rush Von had and his athletic ability to play outside linebacker that Von was the best fit for us,” Elway said. “That’s not saying Marcell or those other guys wouldn’t have been a fit because they’re all great players and it was indicative by the kind of years they had.”

Miller got 10 ½ of his sacks in the first 11 games, then suffered a broken right thumb that drastically curtailed his production. As Miller slowed, so did the Broncos’ defense.

The feeling may have been that the 49ers still would have had a strong defense without the rookie Smith while Miller carried the Broncos’ defense.

“I have a whole lot of room to get better,” Miller said. “I need to cut down on the all the mental errors, coach Smith will coach me hard I’m sure.”

Broncos were named on other ballots. John Fox placed third for the NFL Coach of the Year behind San Francisco’s John Harbaugh and Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy.

And Broncos’ quarterback Tim Tebow was given the GMC “Never Say Never” Award. Tebow was not only the clear choice because of his five late-game comebacks against Miami, Oakland, the New York Jets, San Diego, Minnesota and Chicago, it seemed as if they created the award specifically for him.

Indeed, it was the first year of the award and unlike many of the other awards, the Pro Football Writers Association of America did not vote on it.

(AP)–Will Spradling had a career high 19 points, Angel Rodriguez scored all 13 of his points in the second half and Kansas State rallied for a 64-53 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday.

The backcourt duo provided just enough offense to bail out the Wildcats (16-6, 5-5 Big 12), who were awful from the field in the first half. Spradling had four 3-pointers and Rodriguez added four assists as Kansas State avoided a third consecutive loss.

The Wildcats improved to 21-3 in February over the past three-plus seasons, including a 12-1 mark at Bramlage Coliseum, which is fast becoming one of the league’s most difficult venues.

Elston Turner scored 18 and Naji Hibbert had 14 for the Aggies (12-10, 3-7).

The teams meet again in College Station later this month.

Officials at Texas A&M University report a continuation of record enrollment.

Spring headcount of 46,717 represents an increase of 295 compared to last year.

President Bowen Loftin told those attending the recent Chamber of Commerce Economic Outlook Conference A&M is looking to grow in two specific areas, junior transfers and graduate students in specific areas.

For the next five years, Dr. Loftin projects slow and steady enrollment growth at the flagship campus, topping 50,000. Last fall’s headcount surpassed the milestone before the official counting day, when the reported enrollment was a record 49,861.

Question about future A&M enrollment and the reply from President Bowen Loftin at the Chamber Economic Outlook Conference.

Dr. Loftin will be a guest of WTAW’s The Infomaniacs Wednesday morning at 7:15.

The official news release from A&M:

Spring semester enrollment at Texas A&M University totaled at a record 46,717 students as of the institution’s 12th class day, for an increase of 295 over the certified figure for the spring 2011 semester, university officials reported today.

Official certified enrollment is based on the 20th class-day total, as tabulated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, but officials note the difference between the 12th and 20th class-day figures typically varies only slightly. The 12th-day figure is what is initially reported to the Coordinating Board.

Spring semester enrollment is traditionally less than that for the fall semester because of the large number of students who graduate in December, university officials note. Texas A&M’s 2011 fall enrollment was a record 49,861.

Both of Texas A&M’s branch campuses also have record enrollments. Texas A&M University at Galveston reported a spring enrollment of 1,882, for an increase of 122, and Texas A&M University at Qatar has 524 students this spring, for a gain of 48.

HOUSTON (AP) _ A fugitive described by the FBI as being a “tall, dark and handsome bandit” has been accused of holding up two banks this week in Texas.

Bank surveillance photos provided Friday show a suspect, believed to be the same man, with sunglasses atop his head during robberies in Houston and Beaumont.

Investigators say a teller was handed a threatening note Thursday at a Comerica Bank in Houston. Nobody was hurt and the robber escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

A Bank of America in Beaumont was robbed Monday, in which a note was also slipped to a teller. No further details were released on the heist.

The robber is described as a white man, in his 30s, about 6-foot tall, with a medium build and short brown hair.

NEW YORK (AP) _ Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the renowned breast-cancer charity, is facing an escalating backlash over its decision to halt breast-screening grants to Planned Parenthood.

Some of Komen’s local affiliates are openly troubled, and at least one top official has quit, reportedly in protest.

Dallas-based Komen has been deluged with negative emails and Facebook postings since news broke Tuesday that it was halting most of the grants — they totaled $680,000 last year — that Planned Parenthood affiliates used for breast exams.

In their first news conference since the cutoff was reported, Komen’s leaders denied Planned Parenthood’s assertion that the decision was driven by politics and pressure from anti-abortion groups.

“We don’t base our decisions on whether one side or the other will be pleased,” said Komen CEO Nancy Brinker.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) _ A military judge has delayed the murder trial for the Army psychiatrist charged in the Fort Hood shooting rampage until June.

Attorneys for Maj. Nidal Hasan argued Thursday they didn’t have all the evidence they needed to be ready for the March trial. Prosecutors insisted they didn’t need more time, noting one defense expert was hired nearly two years ago.

The defense had asked for a July trial, but the judge settled for June.

Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for the November 2009 attack at the Texas Army post. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Hasan, 41, remains jailed. He’s paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by police the day of the rampage.

DALLAS (AP) _ A Dallas teenager deported to South America under a false name never expressed concern during jailhouse phone calls that she was misidentified as an illegal Colombian immigrant.

In a recent television interview, 15-year-old Jakadrien Turner said she tried repeatedly to convince Houston police she had lied when she initially identified herself to them as Tika Lanay Cortez. She had told police who arrested her for shoplifting she was a 21-year-old Colombian national.

In more than two dozen recorded telephone calls reviewed by The Associated Press, Turner said she expected deportation to Colombia and didn’t complain of having no ties to the country.

Instead, in several conversations with two men, she identified herself as Cortez and discussed renewing her green card and having her passport and Colombian ID sent to authorities.
