COLLEGE STATION, April 5, 2018 — Girls Inc. President and CEO Judy Vredenburgh will present a talk titled “The Power of Mentoring: Shaping Lives, Strengthening Futures” during the 2018 Bank of America Program on Volunteerism Tuesday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on Texas A&M University’s campus. The event, hosted by the Bush School of Government and Public Service, will also include a 5 p.m. reception.

Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold through direct service and advocacy.  The organization works in partnership with schools and centers in 400 cities across the United States and Canada to provide girls ages six to eighteen, particularly girls from low-income communities, life-changing programming and opportunities.  There are four Girls Inc. locations across Texas.  Girls Inc. also works to improve the conditions in which all girls are growing up, by pushing for policy and culture changes that promote girls’ rights and opportunities.

Prior to Girls Inc., Vredenburgh served as President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.  Vredenburgh began her career in the retail industry, becoming the CEO of Chess King.  Throughout her career, she has been a fervent supporter of gender equality and women in leadership, creating opportunities for the advancement of female executives and serving as a mentor to women in business, both professionally and as a volunteer.

Vredenburgh served on President Obama’s Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships Advisory Council and on the Board of Directors of Independent Sector. She was honored as one of The NonProfit Times’ Power and Influence Top 50 for her transformational leadership. She holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the State University of New York, Buffalo.

The 2018 Bank of America Program on Volunteerism is particularly significant because it marks the launch of the Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy.  The Center supports a vibrant nonprofit and philanthropic sector in Texas and beyond through high-quality research, professional outreach, and engaged learning.

This event is open to the public. Additional event details and registration information are available on the Bush School website.
