The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting Brazos Valley residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Wolf Pen Creek Ampitheater in Brazos Valley.

Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants will complete a 5K (3.1 Mile) walk and will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

“The importance of this walk is not just to raise money. It is here to provide awareness to the fact that this 6th leading cause of death in the US kills more than breast and prostate cancer combined, and so far we have no cure” states Ali Bodovsky, Brazos Valley Coordinator at the Alzheimer’s Association Houston & Southeast Chapter. “It is here to bring hope and support for the 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, and the 15 million Americans who are providers of unpaid care for people with dementia. This walk is an amazing opportunity for you and your family to come out and spread awareness, hope, and increase funds for research, community support, and programs.”

In addition to the 5K (3.1 Mile) walk, participants will enjoy the opening ceremony with the National Anthem, music, entertaining warm-up and a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s. Participants will learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Texas alone, there are more than 360,000 people living with the disease and 1,380,000 caregivers.
