Bryan Police Update

Officer Kelley McKethan of the Bryan police department visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver about looking for suspicious activity, a former officer rejoining the department, another officer being promoted, safety tips for children at home alone this summer, and locations of increased traffic enforcement.

 

More about the promotion of Officer Cary Beason to Sergeant:

On Friday, June 26, 2015 at 2:30pm, The Bryan Police Department will promote Officer Cary Beason to the rank of Sergeant in a ceremony with family and friends. The ceremony will take place in the Secondary Courtroom of the Bryan Justice Center. The public is welcome to join us in this celebration.

Officer Cary Beason is a 21 year veteran of the Bryan Police Department. Officer Beason started his career on patrol in 1991 after serving the US Marine Corps and being recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm. During Officer Cary Beason’s 21 years of service to his community, he has served many areas such as:

• Criminal Investigation Division as a Detective 1999-2001
• Training and Recruiting Office 2001-2008 and 2012-2015

Officer Cary Beason has received other awards as well:

• 1993 Meritorious Service Citation – For a vehicle pursuit and apprehension of two suspects after they shot a female driving on Hwy 21.

• 1995 Police Commendation – superior training provided to new officers for 18 months straight.
• 2002 Life Saving Citation – saving a chocking victim at Buppy’s Restaurant

• 2007 Meritorious Service Citation – Disgruntled bank customer shooting inside of a bank. Officer Beason and Officer Rockett went into the building just before the man committed suicide. No civilians were injured.

• 2007 Police Commendation – Developing a pilot program for the Officer Survival School which has proved beneficial to Officers as well as the Department.

Officer Cary Beason received his Master Peace Officer Certificate in 2006. Officer Beason has been instructing officers for approximately 9 years teaching them how to be safe while responding to the communities needs and will continue to do so in his new assignment.

Sgt. Beason’s future assignment will be to supervise a patrol unit in the Patrol Services Bureau. Sgt. Cary Beason will bring exceptional experience to the team and be an asset to the department as a supervisor. Please join us in congratulating Sgt. Beason on his promotion.
