Notifications to WTAW News as of March 28, 2020:

The National Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony previously scheduled for March 29 at 2:00 pm at the Bryan Vietnam Monument has been canceled. Organizers wish that everyone can pause on that day and time and remember all those who answered the call of the Nation to sacrifice their lives in the Vietnam War and thank them by phone/email/social media, if possible. Organizers urge all veterans and others to stay home, stay connected and join virtual ceremonies as available on TV or the Internet.

Snook ISD has announced that the shutdown continues through April 10. Snook ISD staff will return April 13 for a workday and students will return April 14.

The Downtown Bryan Association is cancelling the April 18 Downtown Bryan Street & Art Fair for the safety of our artists, attendees and community members. We continue to encourage the community to support local businesses through food pickup/delivery and online shopping.

Notifications to WTAW News as of March 24, 2020:

The city of Bryan’s municipal golf course will be closed through the duration of the shelter in place order.

Lake Bryan is closed through the duration of the shelter in place order.

Bryan + College Station Public Library System will be closed through April 7, 2020 due to the shelter-in-place order.

The city of College Station has postponed the April 18 city council runoff election. A new date has not been set.

Notifications to WTAW News as of March 23, 2020:

The David Feherty “Live Off Tour” show at Texas A&M’s Reed Arena has been postponed to an alternate date, likely this fall. Guests are advised to keep their tickets in a safe place. The ticket(s) will be honored at the rescheduled performance date. Guests will be notified immediately once the new date is announced. If customers have purchased tickets and have not received them, for convenience, the tickets will be held at the box office until the new show date has been selected. Reservations at Somerville Lake campgrounds and those at other Fort Worth district Army Corps Of Engineers properties have been cancelled from March 23 through May 15.

Governor Greg Abbott issues Executive Orders regarding the coronavirus:

  • Order No. 1: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, every person in Texas shall avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.
  • Order No. 2: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall avoid eating or drinking at bars, restaurants, and food courts, or visiting gyms or massage parlors; provided, however, that the use of drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options is allowed and highly encouraged throughout the limited duration of this executive order.
  • Order No. 3: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall not visit nursing homes or retirement or long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance.
  • Order No. 4: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, schools shall temporarily close.

These orders will be effective on a statewide basis starting at 11:59 PM on March 20, 2020 and will end at 11:59 PM on April 3, 2020, subject to extension thereafter based on the status of COVID-19 in Texas and the recommendations of the CDC. Click HERE for more information.

The Arts Council of Brazos Valley is closed through Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

More than 20 blood donation drives have been cancelled due to coronavirus. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has a mobile donation bus in College Station through Saturday at The Ranch Harley-Davidson. Appointments can be made online between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Click HERE for more information.

College Station Mayor Karl Mooney and Bryan Mayor Andrew Nelson have both declared States of Disaster in their respective cities in response to the COVID-19/coronavirus. Click HERE for more information.

From Texas A&M: (1) Aggie Ring Day and Family Weekend have been canceled. The Association of Former Students reports rings will be shipped directly to students. Or recipients can have have The Association hold their ring for pickup once normal operations resume. (2) Campus Muster will not be held in-person at Reed Arena. What will happen is under discussion by the campus Muster committee and The Association of Former Students. (3) Spring graduation ceremonies will be postponed. The university is planning mail delivery of diplomas at no cost to graduates. (4) Final exams will not be taken in person. Details of what will be done will be announced in the near future.

Boys and Girls Club centers in Bryan and Caldwell are closed until further notice.

From Texas A&M: Classes Canceled March 16-20, Will Resume Online-Only March 23-April 28 Campus will remain open to faculty, staff and students. Texas A&M leadership will advise faculty members on all protocols in the days to come.

Events/Attractions:

Friends of Chamber Music in Bryan/College Station has cancelled (1) the showing of the film Black Orpheus on April 14 at the Queen Theatre in Downtown Bryan and (2) the final concert of the 2019-2020 Friends of Chamber Music’s Concert Series, Clarice Assad and Sergio Assad on April 21 at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station.

Cinemark theatres will be closed beginning March 18, 2020.

The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is closed beginning Wednesday, March 18 through Tuesday, March 31.

Maroon & White Night on Friday, March 20 has been cancelled.
Firkin Fest on Saturday, March 28 is cancelled. Ticket purchasers will be refunded their entire ticket price.
April First Friday on April 3rd is modified. All Downtown Bryan businesses will be open. The concert at the Palace Theater and all organizations and musicians along the sidewalks have been suspended.
The Queen Theatre will suspend operations for the next 30 days and any extension of the closure will be evaluated as time progresses.

CHI St. Joseph Health has cancelled the 5th Annual Gran Fondo Ride scheduled for Sunday, March 22, 2020. Registrants will receive additional communication with further details regarding the cancellation. For more information, visit GranFondoBCS.com.

From MSC OPAS: Next week’s performances of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical have been canceled. We have also canceled our scheduled performances of Fiddler on the Roof (March 31 and April 1 in Rudder Auditorium) and Aquila Theatre’s 1984 (March 24 in Rudder Theatre). All ticket holders will be contacted for refunds next week. The MSC Box Office resumes regular business hours on Monday at 10 AM. And the April 20 and 22 performances of RENT: 20th Anniversary Tour are also cancelled.

From the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office: In the interest of public health and safety, the Sheriff’s Office lobby will be closed to the public until further notice. Those who need police assistance should call 911 for emergencies or (979) 361-3888 for non-emergencies.

From the Brazos Central Appraisal District: The Brazos Central Appraisal District office is now closed to the public. The office will continue to be fully staffed.
