Gloria Cooks Celebrates 30 Years on Air

Gloria Cooks is wrapping up her 30th year on air on Bryan Broadcasting’s Christian family radio station, KAGC.

In February 1989, Gloria Cooks started her “Gospel Express” Radio Show with KAGC, which at the time, was owned by Bob and Judy Bell.

“I love delivering this message of gospel through music,” says Cooks.

When Bob and Judy Bell sold the station to Bryan Broadcasting, Cooks stayed on Sunday afternoons with what she now calls “Paradise Gospel Express”.

Cooks says in the past 30 years, things have changed, including the way she plays music for her show.

“We started out with albums, and then we went to little cassettes, and then CDS, and now of course everyone is going with mp3,” said Cooks.

But Cooks, who says she still uses CDs, says something else that won’t change is her doing “Paradise Gospel Express” live.

“I do have that one-on-one with my listeners, I’m still able to do it live. And it’s a joy, when I think about all of the souls that are being touched because gospel music, as far as I’m concerned is the best music in the world,” says Cooks.

You can catch Gloria Cooks and what is now “Paradise Gospel Express” Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on KAGC 97.3 FM or radioaggieland.com.

News release from Gloria Cooks:

My name is Gloria Cooks. I have served for many years as a volunteer Gospel Radio Announcer for the Christian Family Radio Station – KAGC – 1510 as I celebrate an “historical milestone” this year – I decided to share my exiting story for the first time with my KAGC Family/staff I hope they will feel as honored as I have been to be on board.

History

God favored me in February 1989, and I began serving as the Gospel Radio Announcer for the KAGC Radio Station under the ownership and management of Bob and Judy Bell. After faithfully serving with the Bell’s for several rewarding years, they eventually decided to sell the station. I was unsure of my fate at that time, but I was blessed to continue my “Gospel Express” Radio Show with KAGC at Bryan Broadcasting in College Station under the new management of Mr. Ben Downs. I’m now very proud to say that as of February 2019, 30 years later I am still here!! I have faithfully served as the Gospel Radio Announcer for the Christian Family Radio Station for 30 rewarding, exciting years!! Of course, this is a “Historical Milestone”. My Gospel show, the now – “Paradise Gospel Express” presently airs each Sunday 1-3pm. I do believe that I have a large listening audience, especially within the African American Christian Community. I know many of them personally from various community events. Due to the internet-KAGC’s website and my travels I also have many worldwide listeners. Many are loyal fans who have faithfully tuned in throughout the 30 years. Sadly, many loyal fans have passed on to glory. They are missed. Due to my work within the Gospel Music Industry and my many committed years of service locally and statewide, I was given the title the “Brazos Valley’s Gods Lady of Gospel Music” (within the community) and the “Brazos Valley’s Queen” (within the state). I reference myself by these titles on the air. For the record- throughout these 30 years I have traveled and represented KAGC Radio Station statewide and nationally. However, due to the fact that I work at the station only on Sunday afternoon I don’t make contact with other employees/staff. So very few at the station know or have met me and even fewer are possibly aware of my Gospel Music credentials or of my contributions as a statewide and national representative for my radio show and for KAGC. So, I felt that it was time on this 30th year Anniversary to share my story with KAGC and the listeners. I have shared my exciting journey with my listening audience but never with Bryan Broadcasting Family/Staff. The fact is that (through publicity) Gloria Cooks has put KAGC “on the map” statewide and nationally! I represented KAGC at the renown “Bobby Jones Gospel Show”, Nashville, TN, also at the National Quartet Convention in Birmingham, Ala., and at many other statewide and national Gospel Music events. During these years I have served/representing KAGC as an announcer, presenter, MC, host, etc.… at unlimited events, award shows, conventions, etc. I have also represented KAGC as a state, national Leader in the Gospel Music Industry. I presently serve as the President of the Brazos Central Texas Gospel Music Alliance of Professionals, GMWA(Gospel Music Workshop of America) which has taken me and KAGC to Las Vegas, NV, Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC, and more- As a KAGC announcer I have received numerous awards at state, national awards shows, and Music Events. A few of my many awards include winning several “Announcer of the Year” awards. Receiving a “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2018, a “Media Hall of Honor” award, and a “Gospel Music Legendary” award in 2019. The reason I desire to share my story on my 30th Anniversary year is to let KAGC know that I have represented the station well during these years.

In Closing- I am also a Legendary Gospel Recording Artist who have ministered for 40 plus years. Presently I serve as a TV host of the “Gloria Cooks Gospel TV Show” which airs each Sunday 8:30-9:00AM, on KYLE Y28 TV. The show airs on channel 11, Dish/Direct Ch. 28, and FOX 44, covering all of Brazos Valley and Central Texas. All listeners are invited to tune in. I am so proud and honored to have served at the radio station for these 30 years. I feel much joy when I think about the many souls at which have been blessed, inspired, uplifted, encouraged, and saved through these many years. It amazes me to think of all the souls/lives that have been touched through this ministry. For the record- I will be honored to serve for another 30 years… (or for as long as I am blessed to serve). It gives me great Joy!! I am truly thankful to Bob &Judy Bell and to Mr. Ben Downs for giving me this incredible opportunity to exercise my gift and to be a blessing to the Body of Christ sharing the Gospel Message for these 30 years. As I continue my exciting journey- I invite everyone to tune in on Sundays 1-3PM. To “Get Your Praise On”!! To God be the Glory for my story!
