Blinn College Hosting Mock Disaster Drill On Bryan’s Villa Maria Campus Wednesday

Since last November, Blinn College’s police department has been planning a mock disaster exercise on Bryan’s main campus with 20 agencies and around 200 first responders.

The exercise, using the scenario of an active shooter, takes place Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Blinn’s assistant police chief and emergency management director, Jennifer Taylor, says the exercise will cover three buildings and about one-third of the parking lots on the Villa Maria campus.

Participating agencies include local law enforcement departments and firefighters, the FBI, the health department, emergency management offices, and CHI St. Joseph and Baylor Scott and White hospitals.

They will be joined by Blinn volunteers, who do not have classes because the exercise was intentionally scheduled between the summer and fall semesters.

Taylor says those who don’t have college business or who aren’t part of the exercise will be asked to leave the campus.
