The Brazos County extension office is another step closer to a new building.
That’s after hearing no opposition from county commissioners to building on county owned land next to the tax office and near the appraisal district’s new building.
A extension office consultant told commissioners the east Bryan location was less expensive compared to a new building at the present location on Highway 21 in west Bryan.
The current building, which is 3,500 square feet, will be replaced with one that has 9,160 square feet.
The original recommendation was a building containing 12,000 square feet. But commissioners said there wasn’t enough money in the $2.5 million dollar budget.
Commissioners were also told the new building will be designed to allow future expansion.
The next step is hiring an architect to design the building.
