College Station School Board Reviews Draft Of Proposed High School Drug Testing Policy

After four months of discussion, the College Station school board plans to take action next month on mandatory drug testing of some high school students.

There was no board opposition during a review of the administration’s proposal at this month’s workshop.

This would apply to CSISD students involved in any extracurricular activity, and/or any student requesting a parking permit, and students whose parents signs a request for voluntary participation.

Chief administrative officer Greg McIntyre said the number of drug tests are not determined by the number of the student’s activities.

McIntyre said the monthly round of drug testing would involve 40 to 90 students.

If a student is absent, the student would be tested the following month…and the student would not know they missed their original date.

The proposed annual cost is about $32,000 dollars.
