United Way Of The Brazos Valley Update

United Way of the Brazos Valley president Alison Prince visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver about Saturday’s Lemonade Day, the transition from the 2017 to the 2018 UWBV campaign, and the distribution of grants by UWBV’s youth leadership cabinet.

The Youth Leadership Cabinet of the United Way of the Brazos Valley has awarded $14,500 from their Community Builders Grant program to Brazos Valley nonprofits.

The YLC opened their grant program to local nonprofit agencies whose programs focus on at least one of the three community impact areas of the United Way of the Brazos Valley: Education, Health, and Financial Stability.

YLC members conducted a rigorous grant review process, reviewed, and scored each application based on their alignment to United Way’s Bold Goals.

This year’s grant recipient agencies include:

The YLC is comprised of 34 teens from seven area high schools including A&M Consolidated, Allen Academy, Bryan High, Bryan Collegiate, College Station High, College View, and Rudder High.

The Cabinet raised funds and awareness for United Way during their Fall campaign through various fundraisers at their schools, throughout their districts and through the community-wide “United We Serve” fundraiser at Double Dave’s PizzaWorks.

The youth also hosted their annual Youth Leadership Day in October for 150 of their student peers as well as their annual Day of Caring in March.
