More information about the retirement of Officer David Long from the Bryan police department:

David Long started with the Bryan Police Department in January 1986. He served as a patrol officer for 29 years. He served a few months with the Traffic Safety Unit in 2005 and was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division in August 2015.

Officer David Long received his Master’s Certificate in 2001. He received a Police Commendation in 2010 after responded to a domestic disturbance. He observed a male and female arguing on the front porch. When the male saw Officer Long he retreated into the residence. When Officer Long made contact with the male, the male had a knife to his own throat. The male then retreated into the home and exited out a side door. Officer Long heard this and confronted the male who was trying to walk into a residential neighborhood while he had a knife and was in an agitated state. Officer Long talked with the subject who was angry at the female and at Officer Long. After talking with the male the male then turned all his aggression towards Officer Long and came at him with the knife. Officer Long discharged his Taser causing the male to drop the knife and was then taken into custody. Officer Long’s quick thinking allowed him to contain the armed subject in the yard and take him into custody without anyone being injured.

Officer Long has been a mentor to many officers within the Bryan Police Department. His quick wit will be long remembered and missed. We wish David Long all the best in his retirement.

Please come and join us for David Long’s retirement on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bryan Police Department.
