College Station & Bryan Emergency Responders Spend Part Of Tuesday Evening Looking For A Man With A Gun

Emergency responders from College Station and Bryan spend more than two hours Tuesday evening looking for a man with a gun.

College Station police initially responded at 5:20 p.m. to the report of a man with a rifle on the roof of a parking garage at Northpoint Crossing at Texas and University.

The man was not found, and according to CSPD there was no gunfire or any other threatening behavior.

According to a CSPD news release, the search for the man grew out of an abundance of caution to include the department’s criminal division, special weapons and tactics team, hostage negotiation team, College Station firefighters, and first responders from the city of Bryan.

The man was found about 7:30 p.m. leaving a local restaurant. The man told CSPD detectives he had been taking pictures of his long rifle on the roof of the garage.

After detectives determined the man had not engaged in any threatening or nefarious behavior, the man was not arrested and no charges are anticipated.

CSPD also had to deal with false information on social media. There were posts incorrectly claiming there was an “active shooter” at Northpoint.

The CSPD news release states “to avoid creating unnecessary panic, please remember not to share alarming rumors on social media without first confirming with an official source, especially in the absence of a firsthand account.

Officer Tristan Lopez suggests following CSPD’s social media. And Lopez asks those who have a firsthand account to contact law enforcement first.
