College Station School Board Buys Land And Is Introduced To Ideas To Expand Career And Technical Education

The College Station school board has completed its purchase of land south of the city limits. Originally scheduled for action in August, the board on Tuesday night took final action on 41 acres on Arrington Road between Indian Lakes and Windham Ranch Roads. The $2.5 million dollar purchase comes from bond money approved by CSISD voters in 2015. There was no change in the price from the board’s August meeting. And the board has not designated the property for a specific purpose.

Expanding College Station school district career and technical programs to student in and outside of CSISD was presented to the school board at this week’s meeting. Superintendent Clark Ealy says his counterparts are very supportive in allowing out of district students enroll in some of CSISD career and technical programs. Dr. Ealy brought up allowing out of district students enroll in CSISD’s four year fire science academy, which is a joint project with TEEX. Administrators will also be meeting with Blinn College officials about creating a workforce training program where students would learn four major trades. No decision was made when the board would revisit the topic, but administrators asked members to forward any questions.
