Brazos County District Court Criminal Case Sentences For Road Rage, A Third DWI, And Sex Crimes Against Children

A Bryan man has admitted to threatening a woman with a knife after prosecutors say she accidentally backed her truck into the path of his bicycle. According to the Brazos County district attorney’s office, the plea agreement sentences 33 year old Michael Golatt to 15 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors say last November’s incident in a parking lot near Finfeather and Peppertree ended when the woman called her boyfriend from inside the vehicle, and the boyfriend held Golatt at gunpoint with his licensed handgun until police arrived. Charges were not filed against the man with the gun because prosecutors say he was acting in self-defense. Golatt, who has been in jail since his arrest, will have to serve at least seven and a half years before he becomes eligible for parole.

A 20 year prison sentence is the reason a College Station man is booked into the Brazos County jail for the 20th time in 15 years. 32 year old Gerald Barnett Jr. entered a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office where he admitted to his third DWI. This followed a single vehicle crash last December on Harvey Mitchell Parkway near Wellborn Road. There were no passengers and Barnett was found at his home after leaving the scene. According to the College Station police report, Barnett’s breath alcohol level was nearly one and a half times the legal limit at .116. Maximum punishment was given according to court documents.

A suburban Houston man enters a plea agreement with the Brazos County district attorney’s office where he receives a three year prison sentence for sexual assault of a child and possessing child pornography. According to online jail records, 23 year old Justin Whitt of Cleveland has already served seven months, which took place after he was arrested in August of last year. According to the grand jury indictment, all of Whitt’s crimes took place on the same day. According to the plea agreement, Whitt gave up his right to appeal the conviction and is required to register as a sex offender.
