Texas House Committee Brings In The Texas Rangers To Investigate A Secretly Recorded Meeting

State lawmakers are bringing in the Texas Rangers to investigate the secretly recorded meeting involving the leader of the conservative group Empower Texans, house speaker Dennis Bonnen, and another state representative.

Representative Morgan Meyer of Dallas, who chairs the House general investigating committee, made a motion Monday following a behind closed doors discussion that was unanimously approved.

Meyer says the committee’s intention of the investigation is “to follow the facts and the evidence without regard to political considerations.”

Michael Quinn Sullivan of Empower Texans has not released the recording he made about pitting opponents to ten incumbents in next year’s Republican primary in exchange for media access on the House floor.

Three of the ten incumbents represent the Brazos Valley. They are John Raney of Bryan, Kyle Kacal of College Station, and Trent Ashby of Lufkin…whose district includes Madison and Leon counties.
