Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk Retiring Next Year

Brazos County voters will be selecting a new sheriff next year. Chris Kirk is retiring after 24 years in elected office and 40 years with the department.

Kirk’s retirement will include more time with his wife, five children, and 17 grandchildren.

Knowing he was going to retire, the sheriff says he’s been working on building a sustainable organization for when he leaves office at the end of next year.

Kirk says he’s carried out his original campaign pledge in 1996 to be a 21st century sheriff by using technology unique at the time to public safety agencies.

Kirk hopes his successor will embrace a leadership role on the state and national level as he has done.
