Bryan’s Haswell Park Ballfields Reopen While The Pool Is Closed Permanently

The orange plastic fences and yellow tape have been removed from the east side of Bryan’s Sue Haswell Park.

Deputy city manager Hugh Walker says ballfield light poles have been removed, and the fields have reopened on a first come, first served basis for daytime play. There are no plans to replace the lights.

Walker says the Haswell pool is permanently closed due to the need of extensive repairs and modern features.

Aquatics supervisor Marty Mulgrew, speaking on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs, says that resulted in increased usage at the Sadie Thomas pool, which opened in 2016.

Walker says no decisions have been made about the future of the pool property. Options includes filling in the pool and demolishing or repurposing the bathhouse.

Walker says a future master plan is contemplated for parts or all of the park. But a plan will not be considered until after the William Joel Bryan Parkway project…which includes roundabouts at each end of the park…is further along.
