Recapping Recent Local DWI Arrests

A Brazos County man with five prior drunk driving convictions is back in jail. That’s after Bryan police responded to a report from another driver who said he was almost hit by a SUV last Thursday night that was swerving on Villa Maria near Harvey Mitchell Parkway. According to the arrest report, an officer found the SUV at a convenience store; and in speaking with the driver the officer smelled alcohol and found two open cans of beer. 58 year old Carl Young was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. He remains in jail in lieu of an $8,000 dollar bond. The arrest report noted Young had two prior DWI convictions in Huntsville and a third from Brazos County in 2013. According to the indictment for the 2013 case, Young was convicted from a 1990 DWI in Brazos County and a 1993 DWI in Caldwell County.

One of the DWI arrests made by DPS troopers in Brazos County during the holiday weekend began when a pickup came up behind their patrol vehicle on Highway 21 east of the freeway using illegal headlamps. According to the arrest report, the driver failed field sobriety tests and his breath alcohol levels were more than twice the legal limit at .189 and .195. 56 year old Donald Ray of Bryan, who was arrested for DWI with three prior convictions, is out of jail after posting an $8,000 dollar bond.

Another trooper pulling over to check out a car stopped on FM 2818 with its hazard lights on smelled alcohol on the breath of the driver. According to the arrest report, the driver failed field sobriety tests. Then the driver’s breath alcohol tests measured more than two and a half times the legal limit at .206 and .210. 42 year old Adolfo Angel of Bryan is in jail following his arrest for DWI with one prior conviction. He is also being held for immigration authorities.
